Everyone is Welcome to Attend “9th Taipei City Indigenous Vocabulary Competition” Organized by Indigenous Peoples Commission!

Everyone is Welcome to Attend “9th Taipei City Indigenous Vocabulary Competition”

To promote and revive indigenous languages, Indigenous Peoples Commission, Taipei City Government (hereinafter referred to as the Commission) will hold the “9th Taipei City Indigenous Vocabulary Competition” at 9AM on April 13, 2024 (Saturday) in the Gong-Cheng Building of University of Taipei (Bo-Ai Campus). Learning the vocabulary of indigenous peoples will enable contestants to learn more about and memorize the vocabulary of indigenous peoples to naturally improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in tribal languages. Additionally, Taipei City citizens will be more familiar with indigenous languages, which will help reach the goals of learning and passing down these languages.

The competition has been divided into the elementary school and junior high school groups. Unlike other counties and cities in Taiwan, Taipei City does not have any indigenous tribes, and it does not offer an environment for a single ethnic group. Therefore, to encourage the citizens of Taipei City to participate in the competition, the Commission provides great awards: NT$30,000 for the first prize in each group, NT$20,000 for the second prize, and NT$10,000 for the third prize. We hope that contestants will actively learn tribal languages and show their excellent achievements to strive for these awards.

A total of 12 outstanding teams from the Amis, Paiwan and Atayal will compete for the awards in the groups of elementary schools and junior high schools. Additionally, the top two teams from each group will participate in the national finals in May this year on behalf of Taipei City. The events are spectacular. Therefore, people from all walks of life and reporters are welcome to attend the grand occasion.
