The creator considers that aborigines have a fear of nature, because they knew that the human being can’t control over the nature forever and can’t predict further changes, either. Thus, only by means of guarding this beautiful land, the relationship between the human being and nature can be continued. The creator expresses how those who live in mountains treat their live by his works; moreover, he also showed what he heard, what he saw, and what he experienced on the works, which presents the traditional and modern living style of the Atayal. About Milu HayongMr. Milu Hayong is from Atayal, Fushing Township, Taoyuan County. He has been fond of painting since he was a child. Although most people believe it is difficult to make a living by being a painter, his family still supported and encouraged him a lot.During school time, he had been brilliantly displayed his talent on paintings. However, actually, he was studying in a private vocational school, so his parents used to work hard for tuition. During that period, there were indeed lots of miserable memories for them. After Mr. Milu Hayong graduated from school, he only could make use of off work time to do painting, which made his passion for painting die down gradually and even have the idea of giving up doing painting. However, from his bottom of heart, he still didn’t want to give up.Mr. Milu Hayong believed that it was God making him endowed with this ability. If he couldn’t make good use of it, it would be a pity! Thus, he decided to go on this way. He would interpret every growing stage by painting and he considered it would be a brilliant life.2009/08/06 13:30 Opening tea party2009/08/09 14:00~15:30 Face to face with an artist-From the Atayal culture to creation inspiration2009/08/08~2009/09/12 14:30~15:00, every alternative Saturday- Singing the Atayal2009/08/16~2009/09/13 14:00~16:00, every Sunday-The creative product teaching of the Atayal taboo Sponsors：Indigenous Peoples Commission ,Taipei City Government Organizer：Ketagalan Culture CenterInformation Contact on Exhibitions：( 02 ) 2898-6500 exit 512 Date：98/7/18~98/11/27Time：2009/08/08~2009/09/12 14:30~15:00, every alternative Saturday- Singing the Atayal

Fabulous brush painting depiction, “Huang, Zhong-Tai’s painting exhibition”

In order to promote aboriginal culture, Taipei Indigenous People Commission held the exhibition, “Fabulous brush painting depiction, “Huang, Zhong-Tai’s painting exhibition” from 2009.03.14 to 2009.04.26. A spectacular opening ceremony was taken place at 10:00, Saturday, March 14, at 1F, Taipei Ketagalan Culture Center, and the performance titled” Voice of aborigine, Dancing of brushing” which interprets the masterpieces of the exhibition was involved. This exhibition not only shows the beauty of aboriginal culture, but also arouses us to think about something when modern meets tradition and when west meets east. We also welcome the media to promote this fantastic exhibition. This exhibition was the first one of the series of activities “Seven-Color Program- Fantastic Aboriginal Culture “held by Taipei Indigenous People Commission in 2009 and there are 37 pieces of paintings displayed. These works are of the characteristic of Chinese brush paintings; moreover, the painting subjects vary from rituals, music, dancing, and figures of all aborigines. The organizer divides these works into three main groups titled respectively ”Viewing rituals ”, “Watching Dancing ” and “Observing aborigines”. The most surprising work is the three-meter-long painting “Harvest Festival of Wujao tribe in Hualien” which presents the harvest festival of Amis and also let visitors have the feelings that they are just immersing in a joyous festival atmosphere. Huang, Zhong-Tai’s mentor is Professor Li, Chi-Mao who is the international brush painting master. In order to show the unique of Taiwanese aboriginal culture on his works, Huang, Zhong-Tai integrated western sketch and eastern brush to present the beauty of Taiwanese aboriginal culture. This special arts atmosphere is different from the western paintings based on African primitive arts, Chinese palace paintings, Chinese brush paintings and Taiwanese modern abstract brush paintings.Huang, Zhong-Tai’s traveling around Taiwanese tribes gave him lots of inspiration, and further contributed to this exhibition. The works are of sentimental realism and romantic symbolism, which reflects Huang, Zhong-Tai’s reminiscence and grasp of ancient ages of Taiwanese aborigines. Since he depicted aborigines realistically, the modeling of those figures is not only elegant but also quite closed to real-life and the expressions of those figures are vivid as well. These works focus on depicting the expression of figures, so no matter it is dynamic or static, Huang, Zhong-Tai still can show in an absolutely life-like way. He can present aborigines’ simple life and vigorous dancing in paintings.“The three meters long brush painting is the first one in the world,” said by Professor Li, Chi-Mao at 10:00, Saturday, March 14, at the opening tea party, which made the audiences respond with warm acclaim and applause. After that, Huang, Zhong-Tai presented Director Yang with a painting. Professor Li expressed that the media often pays attention to foreign creations, and he hoped that from now on, the media could be concerned more about Taiwanese arts works. At the opening tea party, we can see Mr. Huang’s outstanding works, listen to his sharing the experiences in contact with aborigines and even participate in Mr. Huang’s professional tour guide, which would make visitors realize the creation background, appreciate brush paintings, analyze works from aesthetic angle, and be acquainted with beauty of aborigines. The organizer held the opening tea party at 10:00, March 14, in Taipei Ketagalan Culture Center. There will be other related activities such as “Aesthetics class”, “Aborigines with inked faces”. Welcome all citizens and students who are interested in Chinese Brush paintings and aboriginal culture to enjoy these activities.Exhibition information:Organizer: Taipei Indigenous People CommissionTheme: Zhong-Tai Huang’s fabulous brush painting exhibitionTime:2009/03/14~2009/04/26Venue: Ketagalan Culture Center, B1Arts-display space ( B1, No.3-1, Zhongshan Rd., Beitou Dist., Taipei City 112, Taiwan)Works: 37 pieces of Chinese brush paintings of Taiwanese aborigines Sponsors：Indigenous Peoples Commission ,Taipei City Government Organizer：Ketagalan Culture CenterInformation Contact on Exhibitions：( 02 ) 2898-6500 exit 512 Date：98/3/14~98/4/26Time：2009/03/14~2009/04/26Location：Ketagalan Culture Center, B1Arts-display space ( B

Taipei Ketagalan Culture Center- Arts Lecture: Taiwanese aboriginal arts story

Goal:In order to let the public get acquainted with Taiwanese aboriginal modern arts, aboriginal aesthetics and the connotation of contemporary arts collection will be introduced by systematic tour guide, which would make the public realize Taiwanese aboriginal arts history.Target group:University students, those who are interested in aboriginal arts, culture, and lectures Venue:Ketagalan Culture Center, 4F International Conference Hall ( B1, No.3-1, Zhongshan Rd., Beitou Dist., Taipei City 112, Taiwan )Tour guide Schedule:1. 2008/12/06 p.m.02:00~04:002. 2008/12/20 p.m.02:00~04:00Agenda:1.Taiwanese aboriginal arts story: Taiwanese prehistorical arts, Taiwanese aboriginal modern arts, and Taiwanese aboriginal contemporary arts2.Arts collection: Introduction to the collection, artists, and arts works of Taipei Ketagalan Culture Center.3.Q&A session: Sharing ideas with participants and having Q&A with speakersRegistration Information:1.Registration fee: Free2.Registration deadline: Every Tuesday to Sunday until 2008/12/043.Registration way: By fax and then making a phone call for confirmation4.Contact information:Ms. Tseng, Taipei Ketagalan Culture CenterTel：02-2898-6500 Ext 513 Fax：02-2898-6519 Sponsors：Indigenous Peoples Commission ,Taipei City Government Organizer：Ketagalan Culture CenterInformation Contact on Exhibitions：( 02 ) 2898-6500 exit 512 Date：97/12/1~97/12/20Time：First on December 6 Saturday in the afternoon 2:00~4:00Location：etagalan Culture Center, 4F International Conferen

2008 The 2nd Taiwanese aboriginal students’ posters Tour

Ketagalan Culture CenterThe 2nd Taiwanese aboriginal students’ posters TourOpening ceremonyIn order to encourage the exchange among museums and promote the beauty off aboriginal culture, Taipei Indigenous Peoples Commission has invited Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines to provide 50 excellent works of 2008 The 2nd Taiwanese aboriginal students’ poster competition for the exhibition in Ketagalan culture center from 2008/11/15 to 2008/12/14. At the first day of this exhibition, there will be an opening ceremony with singing and dancing form aboriginal students at 1F, Ketagalan culture center. This exhibition not only accentuates the feature of aboriginal culture integrating with modern creation of posters, but also leads the trend of cultural creative design in folk style. The success of this activity is contributed not only by Taipei Indigenous Peoples Commission’s pushing forward the exchange among museums, but also by Bureau of Cultural Park, Council of Indigenous Peoples, and Executive yuan’s holding the activity titled ”Continuance of aboriginal culture, aboriginal museums tour” which is one of the series activities”2008 Promoting aboriginal culture museums scheme”. The poster competition held by Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines which is famous for its own aboriginal antiques integrated the creativity form aboriginal youth with aboriginal culture, which lets this exhibition be more refreshing and provides another way of getting acquainted with aborigines as well.In order to gain the judges’ favor, the contestants not only focused on the creativity, but also tried to put the elements of aboriginal culture into their works, which surprised the judges a lot. The gold medal work titled “Listening” is the combination of magnificent mountains and piano keyboard with totems of tribes shown on; the birds fly beside the mountains as if they are just listening to the wonderful melody from the mountains. While we are appreciating this work, it seems that we also heard the voice form the mountains. The silver medal work named “Paean of culture” builds up the image of guitar by inspiration of clothes and ornaments of Bunun. This work seems to tell the audience that the guitar is playing the music about that the Bunun work in the mountains. The contestants converted the elements such as, Taiwanese aboriginal custom, mystery, tribal pattern…etc. into the visual design of modern aesthetics. Moreover, every work reflects not only the contestants’ realization on Taiwanese aborigines, but also the contestants’ providing the public with the educational opportunity of reflection and being interested in such issues. The exhibition will start its tour from July and the last show will take place in Ketagalan Culture Center. The opening ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m., November 15th, and there will be the dancing performances from aboriginal club of National Taiwan University and aboriginal class of Tamkang senior high school, which echoes the design concept of poster contest which is based on the aboriginal countryside. The love story about a Beinan princess and a stag has been handed down for centuries and Ijianq Kadadepan just did his work based on this story. Under his interpretation, his works are primitive, simple and skillful, which surprised the judges and the visitors that they later realized aboriginal legends can be so dynamic.Ijianq Kadadepan’s works are based on tradition and focus on the culture and growing environment of Taiwanese aborigines. He shows what he saw, what he heard, what he felt, and what he thought about on his works which are closed to the reality, which presents his unique and creativity. His works such as “The Loneliness of the Warrior ” in 2001, “Lanyu Flavor” in 2002...etc. are recognized by the public, which encouraged Ijianq Kadadepan a lot because he had risked himself in making such a difficult decision - being an artist. In order to let those who like aboriginal culture see Ijianq Kadadepan’s bronze sculptures, Taipei Ketagalan Culture Center will display 30 pieces of Ijianq Kadadepan’s bronze sculptures in art space from 2006/10/11 to 2006/11//19. Ino, Yoshinori classified Taiwanese tribes based on their languages, physiologies, and cultural differences in 1900. Before the 17th century, the Pinpu is the main race in Taiwan.According to National Geographic magazine of October, 1988, Ho mo sapiens mentioned Taiwan about 67,000 years ago. However, it might be irrelevant to the Pinpu. Nevertheless, since Richard Jr. Shutle and Jeffrey C. Marck brought up their view that Austronesian originated from Taiwan, this point has been widely accepted by international academic circle. Linguist Robert Blust and Archeologist Peter Bellwood published the theses in 1985 and 1991 respectively to prove their view. Bologist Geoff Chambers further confirmed the result of human DNA research in August, 1998.
