| The Pingpu - Distribution of tribes |
The Pingpu is a general term for aborigines of Austronesian living in plains of Taiwan. Ino, Yoshinori classified Taiwanese tribes based on their languages, physiologies, and cultural differences in 1900. Before the 17th century, the Pinpu is the main race in Taiwan.
According to National Geographic magazine of October, 1988, Ho mo sapiens mentioned Taiwan about 67,000 years ago. However, it might be irrelevant to the Pinpu. Nevertheless, since Richard Jr. Shutle and Jeffrey C. Marck brought up their view that Austronesian originated from Taiwan, this point has been widely accepted by international academic circle. Linguist Robert Blust and Archeologist Peter Bellwood published the theses in 1985 and 1991 respectively to prove their view. Bologist Geoff Chambers further confirmed the result of human DNA research in August, 1998.
